The Love Letter, the Best Friend, the Nightmare... and Life After

I wrote a new song and it names names, so where there are blanks, that's where names will be inserted later on...

_______________________________________________________________

Well ___ ____ was my first kiss,
And yes, it made my head spin,
And yes, I was 17...

But what I didn't know,
Is that he's not for me,
And so... I let go...

And I went on down the road,
And stopped at all the places,
And saw all of the cute men,
But none were _____ _____,
And I"d love to see him sometimes,
But I"m just so far away,
From my love.

So I went off to college,
But just before I left,
I told him that I love him,
And he told me, not yet.

And yes, I cried at that,
And I cried and cried some more,
But then I realized,
I still loved him more,

Even after he said no...

And so I went on down the road,
And stopped at all the places,
And saw all of the gentelmen,
But none were _____ _____.
And I'd love to see him sometimes,
But I'm just so far away,
From my love.

Well now he's with my best friend,
Or the friend I thought I had.
And I know he loves her more than me,
Although, he's never said.

So now I fight the nightmares in my head.
They torment my thoughts and make me worse off than before...

I dream of a wedding and i see the blushing bride,
And I see her walking towards him and...
I cry... I cry... I cry...

And she walks down the aisle
And he smiles at his future wife.
And I realize my love has chosen
A different bride.

And the problem with this is
I'm supposed to stand beside her
As her maid of honor and friend,
But I run away,
Crying,
Even though,
I know,
It's all in my head...

But this nightmare takes me over,
And fills me with dread,
Instead of dreaming of my love,
I dream of him and her again.

And i just can't do this again...

And so I went on down the road,
And stopped at all the places,
And saw all of the cute men,
But none were meant for me.
And I'd love to see him,
Without her by his side,
But I know that that won't happen,
So I go... on down the road...

And this song doesn't have a happy ending,
Though the story's not over yet.
But I know it won't end up good for me,
No matter who I end up with.
You see, I know that I,
Just cannot be with him.
Because he's not in love with me,
And it's sad, but I saw this coming.

Even though I went on pretending...

MUSICals!

T-BIRDS! ORPHANS! EGYPTIANS! OH MY!

So I LOVE Musicals! I don't know what it is about them - maybe it's the fact that they are full of music - but I've been in love with musicals since I was like 5 and saw Cats... okay, so I fell asleep that first time, but really, I do love musicals!

My favorites, you ask?
Why, that's a great question!

1) Aida        2) Phantom of the Opera

3) Les Miserables     4)Grease

5) West Side Story

6) Beauty and the Beast (the live version and the Disney movie)

 7) Moulin Rouge8) Wicked

9) Annie    10) Grease 2

Favorite song from each?
1) Aida: My Strongest Suit / The Gods Love Nubia / A Step Too Far / Written in the Stars
2) Les Miserables: I Dreamed A Dream / A Little Fall of Rain / On My Own
3) Phantom of the Opera: Think Of Me / Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
4) Grease: You're the One That I Want / Summer Nights
5) West Side Story: Somewhere / America / Officer Krupke
6) Beauty and the Beast: Beauty and the Beast / Be Our Guest / Home
7) Moulin Rouge: Come What May / Your Song
8) Wicked: Not That Girl / Loathing-What Is This Feeling? / Defying Gravity
9) Annie: Tomorrow / It's a Hard-Knock Life / Maybe / I Don't Need Anything But You
10) Grease 2: Cool Rider / Back To School Again / Prowlin' / We'll Be Together

Is it just me, or is every Disney movie a musical??
Well, ya know what? I'm totally okay with that!

Tell me about it, Stud...

TobyMac!

Okay, if you're interested in music that ROCKS, this guy's the one for you!

TobyMac is a writer, a singer, a rapper, a rocker, a husband, and a dad - and that's just in ONE DAY!

I love this guy so much that I have seen him 3 times in concert, and the first time, I got his autograph (when he gave me the poster back, he fist-bumped me!!! =D )!

2 seconds after this was taken, he bumped knuckles with me! lol =D

He's such an amazing artist that writes uplifting songs that just make you wanna dance and sing and clap your hands and  raise your arms in praise! It's an awesome experience to be at one of his shows because something fun always happens. He makes it so that things are different everytime.

He just released a new album in 2010 called Tonight and it is the shiz!

Just read some of the lyrics from the song City on Our Knees:

"If we gotta start somewhere, why not here?
If we gotta start sometime, why not now?
If we gotta start somewhere, I say here.
If we gotta start sometime, I say now.
Through the fog, there is hope in the distance,
From cathedrals to third-world nations.
Love will fall to the earth like a crashing wave.
Tonight's the night for the sinners and the saints.
Two worlds collide in a beautiful display.
'Cause it's all love tonight, when we step across the line,
We can sail across the sea to the city with one King,
A City on Our Knees, a City on Our Knees..."

Does that not make you wanna just sink to your knees in praise?!

TobyMac is accompanied by the Diverse City Band!

There's a reason that they are called the Diverse City Band, too! They hail from all over; they have different backgrounds, different families, but the thing that holds them together?
:Their strong stance against racism! How great is that?!

Here's the full band including Toby:

Toby "TobyMac" McKeehan - Lead Vocals (2001 - Present)
Gabe "GabeReal" Patillo - Vocals, Trumpet (20010 - Present)
Deshon "Shonlock" Bullock - Vocals (2001 - Present)
Nirva "Nirva Ready" Dorsaint-Ready - Vocals (2002 - Present)
Dave "D-Dub" Wyatt - Keyboard, Backing Vocals (2002 - Present)
Brian "Da Bomb" Haley - Drums (2001 - Present)
Todde "Toddiefunk" Lawton - Bass (2002 - Present)
Tim "T-Rose" Rosenau - Guitar, Trumpet, Backing Vocals (2003 - Present)

DJ Maj - Turntables, Trombone, Tambourine (2001 - Present)
Byron "Mr. Talkbox" Chambers - Monster voice, Keys, Electric Guitar (2009 - Present)

Now, back to the lyrics...

He has written some amazing songs that only become better when the Diverse City Band adds music to them!

Check out this sick brass trio in the beginning! That's true musicianship right there!

"This ain't no ordinary, this ain't no ordinary love. This ain't no ordinary, gonna tell everyone up under the sun.
See I refuse to believe we're a dying breed, children of peace, hope and harmony.
Ordinary hopes, Extraordinary love, something from above helping me for sure.
You can't see it with an untrained eye, but if you take a little time, I'm sure you'll find it..." - No Ordinary Love
All I can say is EPIC!

Here's a few lyrics another song from his new album: Get Back Up

"You turned away when I looked you in the eye, and hesitated when I asked if you were alright.
Seems like you're fighting for your life, but why, oh why?
Wide awake in the middle of a nightmare, you saw it coming but it hit you outta nowhere.
And there's always scars, when you fall that far...
This is love callin', love callin' out to the broken. This is love callin'."

I'll end with this:

Here's my favorite song by TMac:
Gone:
"I told the girl that you should treat her like a lady and
She told me all the things you did and it was shady, man.
She said that what you say and what you do are different things,
But you were tellin' me that you were checkin' out them blingy rings...

"She said she's had enough.
Well  it sounds to me like you're straight outta luck.
And she said she's all through,
And life's not blowing her kisses thanks to you.

I wanna know, wanna know what you were thinkin'!
I can't imagine why it didn't even sink in.
They say you never know what you got 'til its gone.

She said she's had enough.
Well, it sounds to me like you're still outta love.
And she said you weren't true,
And life's not blowing her kisses thanks to you.

I wanna know, wanna know what you were thinkin'!
I can't imagine why it didn't even sink in.
They say you never know what you got 'til its gone.

But she said its gonna be alright,
'Cause God made a way through the pain and he opened her eyes.
And she said you came crawlin' back,
But after what you did to her she wouldn't have any of that!
(She kicked him to the curb!)

I wanna know, wanna know what you were thinkin'!
I can't imagine why it didn't even sink in.
They say you never know what you got 'til its gone."

Can you tell why I LOVE this song??!!
Why I love this GUY?!

PEACE, LOVE and DIVERSE CITY!

Lyrics to my Life...

So most people who know me know that I sing. Alot.
And what most people don't know is that I am a lyricist more than anything. I may not be able to play much on piano and guitar, and none at all on drums, but I love writing lyrics that just make you fall in love with a song.

There are so many lyricists that get that.

Like Chris Carrabba, lead singer of Dashboard Confessional, gets it.
So many of his songs have that impact where the listener's just left thinking "That's what I am feeling right now," or "I wish I could say that to my girlfriend and make it sound like he just sang it."
"My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me. So won't you kill me, so I die happy. My heart is yours to fill or burst, to break or bury, or wear as jewelry. Whichever you prefer." - Hands Down
"Well as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs and sit alone and wonder how you're making out. But as for me I wish that I was anywhere with anyone making out." -Screaming Infidelities
"How the girls can turn to ghosts before your eyes and the very dreams that lead to them are keeping them from dying. And how the grace with which she walked into your life will stay with you in your steps, and pace with you a while, for so long, so long." -So Long, So Long
"I am vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong. I am right, I swear I'm right, swear I knew it all along. And i am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well. I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself, so clear..." -Vindicated

Also, there are lyricists like John Vesely, who can make me laugh, cry, and laugh so much I cry, all in one song. His words make me feel like they came straight from an angel, and i am being so serious!
"I know i'm not the best for you, but promise that you'll stay, cuz if i watch you go, you'll see me wasting, you'll see me wasting away, cuz today, you walked out of my life, cuz today, your words felt like a knife, I'm not living this life. Goodbyes are meant for lonely people standing in the rain and no matter where I go, it's always pouring all the same." -Like A Knife
"Hold your breath because tonight will be the night that I will fall for for you over again don't make me change my mind, or I won't live to see another day, I swear it's true because a girl like you is impossible to find, you're impossible to find. This is not what I intended, I always swore to you I'd never fall apart. You always thought that I was stronger. I may have failed but I have loved you from the start." -Fall For You
"Waiting for your call I'm sick, call I'm angry, call I'm desperate for your voice listening to the song we used to sing in the cars you remember butterfly, early summer is playing on repeat just like when we would meet, like when we would meet. I was born to tell you I love you. And I am torn to do what I have to to make you mine. Stay with me tonight." -Your Call
"The whispers turn to shouting. The shouting turns to tears. Your tears turns into laughter and it takes away our fears. so you see, this world doesn't matter to me. I'll give up all I have to just to breathe the same air as you 'til the day that I die. I can't take my eyes off of you." A Twist In My Story

These are only a few of the amazing lyricists that I respect and look up to in the profession. And these are only a few examples of their amazng talent for putting words with their already great music.

I encourage you to look up these bands and listen to all their music. It's amazing what lyrics add to song, especially when put in the right combination.

I'm going to end with an amazing quote from John...
"All I had to say is goodbye. We're better off this way. We're better off this way." -Goodbye

K. B. Poe

Kendy Poe, as she prefers to be called, is someone you need to know.

She will be famous one day, I can promise you that.

She's a singer with a soulful voice and a heart of gold and could possibly be the next Adele. I'm sure of that.

Although, I could, perhaps, just a bit, be biased considering this amazing singer is my roommate.
LOL

She and i have alotta the same musical interests. For instance, we bonded over our love of Gavin DeGraw. He's amazing, and I do believe if we can pull it off, he will sing at both of our weddings. =)

Also, we both love the vocal stylings of Michael Buble, Owl City, Carrie Underwood, Kris Allen, BOB, Colbie Caillat, the Fray, Jason Mraz, Rascal Flatts, John Mayer,Tim McGraw, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Lady Antebellum, LeAnn Rimes, Leona Lewis, Maroon 5, Miranda Lambert, Flyleaf, NSYNC,  Sara Bareilles, Simple Plan, Eminem,  Neon Trees, and prolly even more.

With that much in common, I'm surprised we don't stay up all night talking!... well we did that for about the first week, haha!

But what you really need to know is this:
Kendall Poe will be famous one day. And you should get to know her before then , 'cause
                         she'll be important.

And then you can ask for money when she gets rich! haha

Around the world in (almost) 19 years

Music has taken me places that I never could've imagined. I've traveled to so many countries with my family and with my high school band; with my college band and, hopefully, with my fraternity.

Since I was 5, I have been to the following places (in order):
Europe -Austria, France, and Germany
Hawaii
New York - NYC, Boston, and Salem
Hawaii
Mexico -Cozumel
Europe -Italy: Rome, Florence, Verona, and Venice
Bahamas -Nasau and CoCo Cay.

It probably helped that my dad was the band director, so my whole family usually went...

But my family is very musical.
My mom went to UK on a pianist scholarship and was a music teacher for 15 years.
My dad also went to UK and was a percussion performance major and is now the band director, as I said.

My brother was a percussionist in high school but he's really a drummer at heart. He has been the drummer of numerous rock bands and is currently the drummer/back-up vocalist for the band Pawnshop Radio. They are a very good band and i'd suggest listening to their music.

I am a music education major at UK, (yes, I know, following in my parents' footsteps) and also a journalism major. I dream of being a music critic and hope to do that at a notorious newspaper such as the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune.

With the UK Band (aka WMB[Wildcat Marching Band]), I have gone to Tennessee and Alabama... both places we lost our football games. =(

Because I am a member of one of the university bands, I was able to become a member of the Theta Epsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. We are a service fraternity with the purpose of assisting the university bands.

I'm sure that with KKPsi, I will go to more places and meet more people. I love Kappa Kappa Psi and my brothers within the fraternity.

I love music. It's been my life since I was in the womb, honestly. And with the goals that I have, it will be my life 'til the day I die.
And ya know what? I am totally okay with that. =D
